WAVERLEY Borough Council has denied it is relocating from its headquarters in Godalming after a council report suggested the contrary last week.

At its December 1 meeting, the council’s executive committee was told the delivery of a new £32,000 lighting project will be “subject to receiving greater clarity about the council’s intention to move from The Burys as its administrative base”.

However, responding to The Herald, a council spokesman apologised for the “misleading” wording of the report and confirmed Waverley has no intention of leaving The Burys.

“The council periodically reviews the use of all of the buildings within its ownership to ensure that good value is being achieved,” read a council statement.

“The council’s offices at The Burys are over 35 years old so the cost effectiveness of any capital spending on this building is always considered.

“While there are no plans to relocate Waverley’s administrative base, the council needs to be certain it gets the financial benefit from every investment in a relatively short period.”
