WAVERLEY remained tight-lipped when The Herald went to press on Wednesday as speculation mounted that it has decided to withdraw its key core strategy blueprint that will shape development in the borough until 2028.
A political row broke out following the last-minute decision to withdraw from Tuesday night's executive meeting an agenda item providing an update on the progress of the core strategy containing a report on the results of the strategic housing market assessment on how many more new homes could be built across the borough.
Speculation intensified when an extraordinary meeting of the Waverley Conservative Group was held following the executive meeting.
Rumour had it that the meeting was called spcifically to agree the core strategy should be withdrawn because the number of new homes proposed in the market assessment.
