WAVERLEY Borough Council has warned residents of a council tax scam currently doing the rounds in the borough.

It has received reports of cold callers offering to reduce residents’ tax bills by appealing their council tax bands.

The companies offering the service are charging a fee for something that can be carried out for free by the householder.

Council tax bands are set by central government and there is an established appeals procedure that is free and relatively easy to use.
