WAVERLEY’S parks celebrated double success at the South and South East in Bloom 2015 Awards and it was six-gold glory for Waverley contractors, Glendale Managed Services.

Both Gostrey Meadow in Farnham and Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming received gold awards during the ceremony, at the American Express Community Stadium in Brighton.

Gostrey Meadow came up trumps in the Small Park category, while Phillips Memorial Park shone in the Large Park category. The awards were presented by celebrity gardener and ex-Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins.

Waverley Borough Council, portfolio holder for parks and countryside Simon Thornton said: “Both parks have retained their gold awards from last year, demonstrating the hard work and commitment that has gone into maintaining them to the same high standard year-on-year.

“The quality of these parks is down to the successful working partnership between Waverley and its ground maintenance teams, as well as the hard work of our volunteers.”

The core objective of Britain in Bloom is to recognise horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation. To win gold, the highest of five standards, entries must score 85 per cent or 170 points out of a possible 200.

The judge singled out Nick Gibbs, the park keeper employed by Glendale at Gostrey Meadow, who received a Horticultural Achievement Award for his service to the park and his excellent rapport with the park users.
