Sir, – I thought I should write a short letter to comment on the highs and lows of this year's Firework Fiesta at Farnham. Farnham Round Table has organised the firework display for the past 30 years and each year the event is a great success, raising much-needed funds for local charities. This year is no different in that we hope to have raised in excess of £10,000. The one disappointment this year was that the display was much shorter than planned. We put a lot of effort into organising the event but we were badly let down by the company we use to supply the firework display. As one of the country's leading companies, it has always put on a good display: however, this year, due to a series of errors it simply did not provide enough fireworks. We have received a formal apology, which we extend to all who supported us. As organisers, we were unaware of the problems before the event, so were unable to offer any explanation or apology to the crowds who attended. I want to use this letter to assure the community that we are aware of the disappointment this has caused for many and will be ensuring that we make up for it next year with a much larger display than usual. We could not run the event without the help and support of many local organisations to which we are always very grateful. I am pleased to list them here: Riverprint, The Bush Hotel, Elphicks, The Farnham Herald, the Tourist Information Office, Bradford & Bingley, Nationwide, Folly Hill Post Office, Farnham schools, scouts, Hutchings and Carter, Farnham Furnishers, Sherlow Electrical, Chertsey Tool Hire Ltd, Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council, Ron Hill at Farnham Park, the Golf Club Sgt Pam Jessop and Farnham Police, the fire brigade and, last but by no means least, St John Ambulance. Without them, we would not be able to run such a huge event safely for the enjoyment of local people and the benefit of our local charities. Thank you to all those who supported the event this year. We look forward to providing an even more spectacular event next year. Warren Traynor, chairman, Farnham Round Table, Upper Bourne Lane, Farnham
