FOR the third consecutive year Farnham Lions is running its Project Wenceslas - inviting elderly people to pass on their winter fuel payments for the benefit of those who need the assistance far more than themselves.
To distribute the donated funds, the Lions are linking up with Farnham's Citizens Advice Bureau and Farnham Sure Start in a determined attempt to eliminate fuel debt and poverty.
In 2013 donations amounted to more than £13,000. This enabled the Lions to completely clear the utility accounts on the CAB's fuel debt register and then to make numerous ex-gratia payments, through organisations like Sure Start, to families who were struggling with their gas and electricity bills.
