THE Feast of Stephen is fast approaching and the Farnham Lions’ Wenceslas Project for 2015 was officially launched in Farnham last week by the town mayor, Pat Frost at the Wood Yard in Seale Lane, thanks to the hospitality of John May.

The log cabin and log piles were an appropriate back-drop for the mayor to send the Good King and his team of helpers on their way to relieve fuel debt and fuel poverty in the Farnham area.

In so doing she complimented the Lions on their imaginative and highly beneficial project.

The Lions are inviting “better-off” pensioners to forgo some or all of their winter fuel payments in favour of assisting the families and individuals who are seriously struggling to cook and keep warm.

Last year they raised £20,000 in Farnham and Haslemere which enabled the CAB to clear its fuel debt register and also for the Lions to make numerous grants to families identified by Sure Start Centres and Home/School Link social workers. This year they hope to do at least as well.

Details of the project are in the flier circulated with this issue of The Herald or donors can contribute online at www.justgiving.com/lions-wenceslas.

Donors are assured that all donations are forwarded on behalf of the beneficiaries direct to their relevant fuel utility companies. There are no overheads and every pound is spent on fuel.
