SEPTEMBER 8: Alton Lions craft market in Cross and Pillory Lane and Alton’s Market Square, 10am-3pm. A wide range of locally crafted ware ranging from patchwork quilts to hand crafted cards and from jewellery to chocolate, cards, paintings and wood turning.

SEPTEMBER 8-29: ‘One Hundred Years from Then and Now’ at the Allen Gallery, Church Street, Alton. An exhibition of paintings by Abi Wicking looking back to the end of the First World War and forward to the situation with endangered species and conservation one hundred years from now. SEPTEMBER 8-NOVEMBER 30: Wild art exhibition at Gilbert White’s House Museum, Selborne. A collective of four female artists whose styles and methods vary in creating pieces of contemporary art. SEPTEMBER 9: Hampshire country sports day at Tichborne Park, Alresford, 9.30am-5.30pm. Horse riding falconer and star of Game of Thrones Jonathan Marshall returns with dancing Spanish and Lusitano horses with falcons. Arena events start 10am and include hounds, inter-hunt mounted relay, clay pigeon shooting, plus gun dog training with Sarah Miles, fly fishing, and terrier racing. SEPTEMBER 19: Energy Alton meeting at Alton Community Centre for the screening of the documentary film ’Tomorrow’ (‘Demain’), 7.30pm. A hugely positive and inspirational film, exploring creative local solutions in the fields of food, energy, transport, economics and education. It visits permaculture farms, urban farming projects, local renewable energy projects, creative schools, ambitious recycling projects and more.
