Hammer Lane residents say their water battle is far from over, with fresh outages reported just weeks after South East Water said it would review the long-running problem.

Families say three further low-pressure or no-water incidents have struck the area, including an outage at around 7.30pm on July 21 and another on Sunday, July 26 morning.

The Haslemere Herald previously reported how residents had endured years of disruption, with families claiming they had suffered 56 outages since June 2021, leaving them unable to shower, cook or wash clothes and forcing some to keep emergency water supplies at home.

The latest disruption comes after South East Water acknowledged Hammer Lane was affected by repeated supply problems and said it would review concerns — including the route supplying properties on higher ground.

But residents say they are still waiting for answers.

Maggie Wright, who has been leading the campaign and recording every interruption, has now escalated her complaint after saying she received only an acknowledgement from South East Water.

She said residents were becoming increasingly frustrated after years of disruption and questioned why they were still experiencing failures while the company reviewed the issue.

“After many years of inconsistent supply all we want is to be able to turn on the kitchen tap and be guaranteed water,” she said.

Ms Wright said South East Water’s response to her concerns had been disappointing, claiming she heard the company had contacted councillors about the issue before directly updating her.

She has now raised the matter with Hampshire County Council, with a meeting between councillors and South East Water being arranged.

Helene, a full-time working mother of two children with additional needs, previously said the disruption had made family life “far more of a challenge than it needs to be”.

Her family now keeps bottled water permanently stored at home because they cannot rely on the taps.

One of her worst experiences came last Christmas, when she was hosting eight family members, including two elderly relatives and a very young child.

She said: “I was hosting eight family members, including two elderly relatives and a very young child. On the same day, we had no water and a power cut — both lasting for hours. I was on the verge of trying to find a hotel just to keep everyone warm and with access to amenities.”

She added: “You would have thought after more than half a decade of asking the same questions, they would do something about this. But they don’t care. It is only by putting a necessary public spotlight on this situation that we stand any hope of getting the issue resolved once and for all.”

South East Water has apologised for the disruption and said homes on higher ground may experience low pressure or intermittent supplies during periods of high demand.

The company said it was monitoring pressure levels, making operational changes and reviewing concerns about a possible alternative supply route along Hammer Lane.
