ALTON county councillor Tony Ludlow is inviting suggestions on how to spend a £10,000 windfall. A similar bonus has been allocated by Hampshire County Council to each councillor to support projects or initiatives in his or her divisional area. The grants will be made to bona fide groups and organisations but not to individuals. Mr Ludlow, who represents Alton town and Holybourne, is planning to allocate some of his £10,000 in mid-January and is inviting applications. He said: "I want to promote the work of volunteers in Alton. They contribute a huge amount to the quality of life in our town and there must be times when they could achieve more if they only had a few hundred pounds. We now have those few hundred pounds." He continued: "I expect most of the grants to be up to £500 but I will be spending a larger sum on supporting the CAB because of its crucial role in our community. "I ask Alton voluntary organisations to think of ways in which their work could be made easier – or better – with a grant up to £500." Mr Ludlow is inviting people to contact him to discuss ideas and/or for help if needed to fill in the application form. He added: "There will be a second tranche of money in the next financial year, so there is time if you need longer to prepare your application, but it would help to know that a bid is on the way. "That way I can put your scheme on the expected list and check whether it would be better funded from another county council scheme."
