MORE than 400 veteran, vintage and classic cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles attended this year’s White Dove Transport Show in Kingsley, Bordon, on Sunday, August 6, raising£13,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

Organised by John Turner and family, of the White Dove committee, along with fellow member Chrys Goodburn, this annual event raises large amounts of money for Phyllis Tuckwell, which cares for local patients and families who are living with a terminal illness such as cancer.

It is always popular with vehicle enthusiasts and this year saw over 1,000 people attend. A barbecue and raffle boosted the total amount raised and live music added to the atmosphere, with ‘Echoes of Elvis’ and the Shadows tribute band ‘That Sound’ both playing at the event.

The money raised by the transport show always goes towards buying new vehicles for Phyllis Tuckwell. This year, the funds raised have been used to purchase a Peugeot Horizon, which has been specially adapted for wheelchairs. It will be used to transport patients to and from the hospice and Beacon Centre, where they can access medical and clinical care, attend physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions, and receive complementary therapies, counselling and chaplaincy support.

Previous years have paid for retail vans, to collect large items of furniture, for example, which people within the community have donated to be sold in Phyllis Tuckwell’s furniture showroom, as well as a minibus which is used for patient transport.

It has also bought a car for the charity’s Hospice Care at Home team, who visit patients who have chosen to spend their last weeks at home, rather than in hospital or at the hospice in Waverley Lane, Farnham.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to John, Chrys, Jenny and all of the White Dove Committee for once again supporting Phyllis Tuckwell through their Transport Show,” said Laura Moody, events fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“Our thanks also go to the sponsors of the show: Grizzly Tools, Thorne-Leggett, Forest Motors, MOTEST, Bill Rawles Classic Cars, North Hants Tyres, Phillips Motor Services & Lynchford Tyres, Motorlink Distribution, Farnborough Communications and also Paul Fitchett Images for taking photos on the day.

John Turner of the White Dove committee said: “We are thrilled that this year’s Transport Show has been another successful event, and would like to thank all our friends, family and the Woolmer Forest Lions that volunteer their support, and to all those who attended on the day.”
