GRAYSHOTT Primary School dads kicked up a storm at the popular annual fundraising tournament as they took a break for watching the World Cup for one night.

This year’s Grayshott Dads’ Football Tournament raised an impressive £2,000 for the school.

Organised by the school PTA, the event was sponsored by Places for People and Surrey Oaks Wealth Management.

The money raised will help provide new resources and learning opportunities for the school.

Also supporting the event, CM Sports provided referees for all the matches.

While World Cup games were being shown on telly, the sun shone and a large crowd gathered to cheer on the class teams of dads – plus a few mums and teachers – while enjoying a burger from the barbeque and a cold drink from the bar.

Competition was fierce and the first semi-final was a tight match between the Yellow Warriors and Blue Blazers, but it was The Blue Blazers who won through following a penalty shoot-out.

The second semi-final between the Green Gluttons and the Real Old Vets FC , comprising dads of former pupils, was won by the Real Old Vets. The Real Old Vets then went on to win the tournament, after beating the Blue Blazers with a dramatic last-minute goal in extra time.

Star player Neil Impiazzi from the Real Old Vets scored their goals in both matches.

The Blue Blazers were presented with their runners-up trophy and the Real Old Vets FC received their winning trophy, plus a medal each player, and a bottle of bubbly.

The other teams, including the Red Foxes, Purple Pythons, Silver Strikers and the Gold Gladiators, are already making plans to hit the winning spot next year.

Thanking everyone for their support, headteacher Sharon Pritchard said: “It is a joy to see everyone coming together on an evening like this to support our school and have some fun.

“The community spirit we see is always truly inspiring and the funds raised will ensure we continue to provide the very best for our pupils.”
