Parishioners in Fernhurst, Lynchmere and Camelsdale could come together to worship under one vicar as a result of a proposal which would see the three parishes combine.

The Rev Nicolas Haigh, who is vicar of Fernhurst, would become the priest-in-charge of the parish of Lynchmere which is a united benefice with Camelsdale.

Discussions are scheduled to take place among the parochial church councils of all three parishes, and the congregations who have been invited to give their views via their parochial church councils.

A Chichester Diocese spokesman said: “The diocese is looking at options with these parishes of the possibility of becoming a joint benefice.

“This is being undertaken in collaboration with all the parochial church councils.

“The Rev Derek Welsman is still acting as priest in charge of Lynchmere and Camelsdale.

“As yet no further plans have emerged regarding Camelsdale’s possible move to Guildford Diocese.”
