POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men were attacked in Alton in the early hours of Christmas Eve.

The incident occurred at about 1.30am as the men, aged 39 and 40, left The Wheatsheaf pub and walked home along Lenten Street towards the junction of Westbrook Road.

As they walked they remember hearing shouting from behind and then being attacked.

The 39-year-old man had his nose bitten and suffered serious facial injuries. The 40 year old suffered injuries to his head which required stitches.

It is believed both men lost consciousness and have not been able to provide descriptions of their attackers.
