A 53-year old woman from Elstead died at the scene of an accident involving two cars on the A281 just east of Rudgwick on Sunday.

She was a passanger in a blue Skoda travelling westbound, which was in a collision at about 5.05pm with an eastbound silver Honda.

The 23-year-old driver of the Skoda, also from Elstead, was taken to the Royal London Hospital in London with serious injuries, and a 57-year-old man, also from Elstead, who was a passenger in the same car, received minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

The 64-year-old man driving the Honda and his 59-year-old woman passenger, both from Crawley, were also injured.

The man didn't need hospital treatment but the woman was taken to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford with serious arm and back injuries.

The road remained closed for several hours while a forensic examination of the scene was carried out.

Sussex Police have asked that any witnesses to the collision make contact quoting Operation Donegal.
