THE death of a 39-year-old woman from Godalming, who was struck by a train on Saturday, is not being treated as suspicious.
Officers from Surrey Police and British Transport Police attended the incident, which was reported at 4.40pm on October 31, after being told that a person had been struck by a train.
“Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but a 39-year-old woman from Godalming was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a British Transport Police spokesman said.
“Her family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A South West Trains spokesman said: “Services between Guildford and Haslemere were disrupted on Saturday evening after a person was struck by a train.
“Our first thoughts are with the family and friends of the person involved.
“The line was reopened around 7pm. We are sorry for the inconvenience some passengers will have faced."
The spokesman added: “Alongside Network Rail, Samaritans, British Transport Police and other train operators, we work hard to reduce the number of fatalities which occur on the rail network and provide additional support to anyone who is affected by an incident such as this.”
