A Haslemere woman has pleaded guilty to claiming more than £6,000 in housing benefit she was not entitled to.
Marilyn Payne, of Kiln Avenue, admitted to making false representations in order to obtain housing benefit on two separate occasions at Redhill Magistrates’ Court in early June.
She did not declare a number of occupational pension schemes which she received, nor the bank account into which they were paid. As a result she was overpaid £6,867 of housing benefit she wasn’t entitled to over a period of five and a half years.
She was sentenced to pay a £125 fine for each offence, to pay costs to Waverley Borough Council of £660, and to pay a victim surcharge fee of £20, totalling £930.
As well as the money she was sentenced to pay, Ms Payne will also have to pay back the £6,867 she wrongly claimed.
• A Milford woman was ordered to pay more than £500 for failing to notify Waverley about changes to her household income, resulting in the overpayment of £9,980 housing benefit.
Emily Swansborough, of Oxted Green, pleaded guilty to the offence at the same court on the same day.
She failed to declare she had an additional job and did not declare an increase in her partner’s earnings.
