ROWLEDGE Cricket Club faces pulling its successful women’s team out of the Surrey Trust League for this summer unless they can urgently recruit some new players.

The team is currently struggling to field a full side amid fears they may have to withdraw from the competition after many successful seasons playing in the gold division.

Club chairman Carl Baker said: “We have an incredibly strong core in the women’s team but urgently need to recruit some additional players so that we can continue to compete in the division.

“We are looking for local players, over 13 years old, who may be interested in playing for Rowledge this season.

“We have 47 girls under-12 years coming through the club, so the future for the Rowledge women’s cricket is very bright, and it would be a great shame to lose our current position in the division.”

Rowledge CC has a strong record of providing players for both district and county level girls and women’s cricket squads. The club, founded in 1887, is committed to achieving the highest levels of performance while maximising participation at all levels and ages.

The recruitment drive will target local senior schools and sports clubs, as well as a Facebook and Twitter campaign.

Matches are played on a Sunday afternoon, with home grounds in Rowledge and neighbouring village Binsted. Training is on a Tuesday evening at Rowledge Recreation Ground. Players interested in finding out more should contact Carl Baker on 07768 325701.
