In fact, in-form Grayshott have emerged as power-brokers in this division. Having beaten Wood Street last week, Grayshott turned the tables and wrecked Cranleigh's hopes by allowing them only two points.
Wood Street struggled for runs and lost wickets steadily to Grayswood. However, Foster (41) and skipper Woodger came to the rescue with a vital last-wicket stand of 54 and the home team finished with a respectable 146 all out. Grayswood used eight bowlers, with Barkla taking 4 for 44 and White 3 for 10 in seven overs.
Steve Barkla, the Grayswood skipper, was the only batsman to look comfortable against left-armers Haymon and Newton. Despite Barkla's 50, Grayswood were all out for 120, with Newton returning match-winning figures of 5 for 39 in 22 overs.
Put in to bat, Grayshott II lost several early wickets, mainly to Boucher, but a 60-run partnership between Conway and Balfour enabled them to reach a respectable 143-9 off the full 48 overs.
Samways and Hill gave Cranleigh SA a steady start, but the Grayshott bowlers all kept to a good line and length. Four wickets for Phil Judge and some excellent catching meant that promoted St Andrews were forced to bat out the last few overs for a draw in a keenly contested match.
Grayshott 2nd XI, captained by Paul Roberts, have been unbeaten since July 13 and have won six of their last eight matches. After a shaky start to their debut season in the division, they have risen to a creditable eighth and are the highest placed second team.
With the first team winning the I'Anson championship and Peter Hannam's third team coming fifth in only their second year in Division Five, it has been a remarkably successful season for Grayshott Cricket Club.
Wrecclesham scored at a fair rate against Hindhead, but lost wickets steadily to Snowden and Carter. Strachan made a useful 33 before finally falling to Pratt and the home team were all out for 135 in 35 overs.
Hindhead looked to be heading for defeat as Blackman and Harman reduced them to 35-5. But Snowden, having a good day, and Dakeyne shored up the innings with a stand of 60. Pratt and Martin played out time as Hindhead laboured to 125-5 in 55 overs.
Elstead outplayed Frensham II in all departments. Put in to bat, they comfortably amassed 228-6 in 45 overs. M Druce and L Ahmed were the pick of the batsmen, hitting the ball very cleanly to all parts.
K Ahmed and L Ahmed then both bowled accurately, getting life from the pitch that Frensham never found. Only McLean put up any resistance with 39, followed by a spirited 23 from Wells. L Ahmed bowled sharply off a short run, mixing in a well-disguised slower ball. He rounded off a good day with 5 for 30 off 10 overs.
Relegated Tilford II elected to bat, but lost wickets regularly, with the only real resistance coming from Knight. The Clarkes, father and son, bowled in tandem before being replaced by Scanlon and Austin who ripped through the Tilford tail.
Badshot Lea's response was rapid and spectacular, with Garfoot blasting 74 not out in only 15.4 overs. They raced to victory for the loss of only two wickets.
Tongham (0) lost to Chiddingfold (10). Details unknown.
