KEEPING their eye on the goal, Woolmer Hill School's young footballers have helped to win their school a prestigious Football Association Charter.
Boys and girls throughout the Haslemere school have made sure of their success of being awarded the special charter by not only taking part in the game as part of the national curriculum, but also joining in lunchtime and after school training and matches.
Head of PE, Neil Morris, who is involved in teaching schoolchildren to play the game, has also coached at Fulham Football Club.
His links with the club have enabled him to develop the game at Woolmer Hill School and helped him to set up the Haslemere and Border Girls' Football Club last year.
The award, said Mr Morris, was all part of "football team work and giving children opportunities".
The school was judged on the quality of teaching and time devoted to football coaching, as well as links with football in the community. Mr Morris has close links with Michelle Jeffcoat from Fulham Football Club, who is also Surrey development officer at the club.
Young footballers who have recently taken advantage of the Fulham's training at its Advance Centre are year eight pupils Ben Hunt, Charlie Ward and Simon Facey.
"We are trying very hard to move sport and physical education forward," said Mr Morris.
With the help of facilities at The Edge, the school, which already holds a Sport England award for sporting development, is now looking forward to another successful season.
