THE sun almost shone on Langham Court in Ridgeway Road as the Mayor of Farnham, Mike Hodge, climbed aboard a digger as Mount Green Housing Association’s first phrase of construction gets under way.

Up until the summer of 2013, Langham Court which was acquired by Mount Green in 2010, provided sheltered housing for the elderly. Permission was granted for demolition of the buildings back in late 2014, for the erection of 18 new homes.

The setting out the foundations commenced in March of this year and late last month the mayor launched the next stage of construction.

This is Mount Green’s first development to include a mix of rent, shared affordable ownership and open market sale homes. The range of housing is aimed at catering for the mix of people who will help sustain Farnham as a successful community in the future.

Speaking after the event at the Garden Gallery in Farnham the mayor said that he is a supporter of shared ownership and believes it is a good way forward for Farnham to attract young families.

Mount Green board chair Linda Convery, expressed her thanks to both Waverley Borough Council and Farnham Town Council, for the help and support that had been given throughout the long process of planning and preparation.

She further thanked Mount Green’s contractor, Thakeham Client who are making good progress and she was particularly pleased that the buildings are growing by the day in what is a “very exciting” venture for Mount Green.

Mount Green was founded almost 55 years ago and owns and manages more than 1,500 homes, the majority of which are located across Surrey.

They have worked closely with Waverley Borough Council on a number of housing projects of which Langham Court is the latest.
