ST Peter’s pupils put a different slant on making paper chains this year, by creating chains relating to the United Nations’ Global Development Goals.
Each chain carried children’s reflections on world issues such as hunger, dirty water, inequality, poor education and pollution.
Sarah Marshall, deputy head said: “The chains followed participation in the World’s Largest Lesson which challenged the older children to think about children’s rights and the barriers that many children around the world face in order to achieve these rights.
“Younger children began to understand the differences between needs and wants. Children really enjoyed thinking about how our lifestyle choices can have an impact in other parts of the world.”
Headteacher Sarah Dunning added: “We have a strong eco-focus at St Peter’s. We also encourage children to think about big issues such as equality and justice. The Global Goals for Sustainable Development put some of this learning into context.”
