Alton's young side rewarded the faith of Dave Hawtin with an excellent win at Bemerton Heath on Tuesday.
The manager was confident his side could turn the corner after some poor results and this performance suggests that Alton are finding their feet in this tough league.
"We didn't deserve to lose those games," declared Hawtin. "We were always creating chances, but individual errors cost us. We were superb tonight. Our tempo was unbelievable and we really destroyed them."
Hawtin believes his young players are resilient enough to take setbacks in their stride and gradually improve. "I really have faith in our players," he said.
The pace of Alton's game certainly unsettled Bemerton, even the vastly experienced Ian Chalk who was once a fine player for Salisbury.
Danny McGarry saw a fine shot come back off the bar early on, but Alton were not discouraged and got their reward five minutes before the interval.
Richard Mealey set up the opening and then it was down to the individual skill of Ian Dyer who bamboozled defenders and goalkeeper before slipping the ball into an open net..
Bemerton had a further setback when Chalk was sent off for a professional foul on Mealey who was clear on goal, but Lewis Field's resulting penalty was saved by the goalkeeper.
However, with the home side down to 10 men, Alton kept their shape and finally made sure with 10 minutes left. Brian Wood's thunderous shot was spilled by the goalkeeper and Mealey followed in to crash the ball home.
l Alton turn their attention to the FA Vase and a home match with Erith Town this Saturday.
