HASLEMERE rail passengers can enjoy some very different display boards, thanks to a new partnership forged between South West Trains and Haslemere Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

The society promotes young artists and approached the train company to ask if art by pupils from Woolmer Hill, St Bartholomew’s, Camelsdale and Barrow Hills schools could be exhibited in the waiting room at Haslemere Station.

Youth committee representative Barbara Murray said: “South West Trains had a similar exhibition at Farnham Station and we are very grateful we have been allowed to hold this exhibition at Haslemere.

“We hope it can be a fairly permanent display and include more schools. All the pupils are delighted to have their work on display and everyone involved has been very enthusiastic about it. Rail passengers are enjoying it, too.”

Haslemere station manager Venkatesh Nathan-Sankaran said: “We are really pleased to be displaying artwork produced by our local young artists.

“It really helps to bring something a little different to the station and passengers have mentioned how nice it is to see the artwork on their travels.

“In addition to the support shown by our local artists, I’d also like to say a big thank you to the station team and David Walthew who helped to make it happen.”
