CHILDREN of those at Right at Home Guildford & Farnham, have raised £500 after taking part in a read-a-thon, with all proceeds going to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Leanne, mother of Piper who inspired the event, said: “Piper wanted to raise money for our clients that we look after, she knows that some are not well and has met several at our annual barbecue
“I explained to her that she would need to raise money for a charity where they look after sick people and she remembered that my nan, her gran, stayed with Phyllis Tuckwell a couple of times for respite when she was unwell.
My nan loved it there and they really did a great job to rehabilitate her, and were a huge support for my mum who was her main carer.”
Therefore Piper wanted to help raise that little bit extra for the hospice, she asked Leanne what her options were and it was decided that a read-a-thon was the best choice. They then approached other Right At Home carers to see if their children wanted to take part.
Piper’s goal was to raise £100 which she exceeded. Leanne added: “She’s very proud of herself and is thrilled that they’ve all raised a huge amount of money.
“She’s already thinking of raising money for another charity, this time it’s a personal goal as it’s raising money for research into her rare kidney disease, so she has her heart set on helping find a cure for her illness.”
