THE eyes of the nation will be on Brazil on Saturday as England take on Italy in the heat of the Amazon. But the World Cup isn't the only footballing competition that begins this weekend, as another is taking place on our doorstep. There should be a carnival atmosphere at Penns Place as the Petersfield Town Juniors are staging their annual six-a-side competition – featuring budding Frank Lampards, Wayne Rooneys and Steven Gerrards. Around 1,500 young footballers from as far afield as Kent, London and the Home Counties will compete against district sides in the showpiece event. The competition is one of the biggest of its kind in the South East with more than 230 teams taking to the pitch over the coming days. For full story, see this week's Petersfield Herald.
