PUPILS and staff from three Alton schools put their best feet forward on Tuesday as they strode off around the Alton Infant School playground to launch the Golden Mile initiative.

Spurred on by Chelsea Fox from Alton Sports shop, who was there to provide advice and help promote the activity, the launch party, comprising Alton Infant School pupils Ellie, Harriet, Freddie and Joseph, were joined for the occasion by Anstey Junior School pupils Ellie, Rhys, Sam and Chelsea, and Amery Hill School representatives Hannah, James, Connor and Hayden.

Alton Infant School has recently had marker spots added to the perimeter of the playground. These are indicators for the children as they do their daily run. Each class has daily timetabled slots to carry out their Golden Mile activity, which will be cumulative throughout the week to complete the distance.

Headteacher Jayne Broach said: “As a school we reinforce the message from the Department of Health that children should engage in regular daily physical activity habits across the week, every week all year round.”
