AN open day at Haslemere fire station on Saturday helped spread the word about the expert support on hand for the elderly and vulnerable.
Watch manager Larry Bennett said: "We are keen to get the message across about the information and advice we can provide to help support the elderly and vulnerable in our community.
"We can do home visits to check safety standards and also put people in touch with other agencies.
"Anyone with questions can just pop in to see us in West Street or call the freephone number 0800 085 0767. We also had the new fire retardant sheets on display, which look just like ordinary sheets."
There was something for everyone with fire appliances available for closer inspection and a firefighters charity stall. Younger visitors enjoyed aiming a hose to try and put out a fake house fire.
