LUMINOSA’S two youth choirs – Luminosa Young Voices for those aged between six and 11, and Luminosa Rising Voices for 11 to 16-year-olds – are looking for new members for a really exciting project this term.
Over the course of the term, the choirs will be working on music which will culminate in a workshop with internationally-acclaimed company the English Touring Opera.
Here they will produce a Performance in a Day, based on the story of Carmen, at Wessex Arts Theatre, Alton College, on December 7.
The company will work with both choirs on confidence building, set design, acting, movement, singing and performance skills.
In addition, throughout this term the choirs will learn a huge variety of music, everything from the latest musicals to classical pieces, pop songs and folk songs, all taught with a solid grounding in vocal technique and performance skills.
As one parent said of the latest performance: “The children have got a huge buzz from performing and I can see how much it has raised my daughter’s confidence in just one term.
“They are taught vocal technique just like a singing lesson, including how to breathe properly, how to sing without damage and how to sing in a variety of styles.”
Both choirs rehearse on a Tuesday evening at the Alton Maltings Centre from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.
