ALDERSHOT, Farnham & District AC members Louise Small and Jonny Hay, both from Farnham, were second British runners home in the senior events at the Antrim International Cross Country Meeting.

Hay was one place behind Scottish champion Andrew Butchart when finishing seventh in a race won by Bahrain’s Aweke Ayalew who was tenth in last year’s World Championships.

Small came eighth, four places behind Kate Avery (Shildon), silver medallist in the last two editions of the European Championships. The winner was Kenya’s Alice Aprot Nawowuna who took a bronze medal over 5000 metres at the World Junior Championships of 2010.

At the Hampshire League meeting the same day, the senior women’s event was won by an under-17 runner from AFD, Lucy Pygott beating clubmate Katie Bingle by eight seconds.

Stacey Burrows, the second junior athlete, was sixth overall to round off the team victory. Maisie Grice, eighth overall, was third junior to complete a perfect score for the club in that category.

Jack Boswell won the U17 men’s race and led AFD to victory, with Robbie Coupland fourth and Ollie Percival seventh.

Sam Bodoano won the U13 boys’ competition after he had recorded the same time as Cameron Coveney of Basingstoke & Mid Hants. Ed Henderson, sixth, and Alfie Spear, eighth, were the other members of AFD’s winning trio.

There was another AFD team victory in the U15 boys’ event. Max Heyden was second, Marcus Shantry sixth and Eion Canning seventh.

A veteran men’s trio of Tad Dicker, fifth, Scott Smith-Bannister, sixth, and Chris Try, 19th, also took team honours.

There was one other individual winner for AFD: Niamh Reid-Smith in the U15 girls’ race.
