ALDERSHOT, Farnham & District AC hosted the finale of the Hampshire Cross Country League on Saturday and the club’s runners rewarded chairman Mike Neighbour and his team of organisers by securing many of the trophies on offer.

A great day for the local club was rounded off when Luke Prior led the senior men to victory in the last race of the day.

Individual winner Prior (33mins 33) finished ahead of team-mate Alex Pointon (33-34) who was also runner-up to him in the individual aggregate.

The U15 boys provided the most dominant display for AFD. Will Barnicoat, silver medallist in the South of England Championships a fortnight earlier, won a race in which AFD had the first four and another five in the top ten. The squad had triumphed at all four previous meetings.

Barnicoat came home in 15mins 03secs, ahead of runner-up Ryan Martin (15-17) and third-placed Dylan Spencer (15-21).

The U13 boys also completed a full set of team victories and Rudi Morrell, who won on the day in 11mins 04, clinched the overall individual title.

AFD took two other age-group titles, U17 men and U15 girls, with wins at all five matches. Marcus Shantry, Max Heyden and Charlie Kershaw finished second, third and fourth in the U17 race, while Pippa Roessler (17-00) and Alice Garner were second and fourth in the U15 girls’ event.

The club claimed the U13 girls’ overall title, with Kiki Webb fifth on the day at Aldershot.
