STEPH Twell will run at the Olympic trials which are being held with the British Championships in Birmingham this weekend.
The Aldershot, Farnham & District runner already has the requisite number of qualifying times for the 5000 metres and needs to finish in the first two on Sunday when she will be defending the title.
Twell, who competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 before a serious injury disrupted her career, sharpened up by clocking a personal best time over 400 metres when AFD hosted a Southern Athletics League meeting last Saturday.
Clubmates Lily Partridge and Jonny Hay have already booked their places on the team for next month’s European Half Marathon Championships.
Partridge won the 3000 metres at the Military Stadium before finishing second in the 1500 to Louise Small, who earlier this month represented Great Britain in the European Cup 10,000 metres.
Hay contested the 800 where he was runner-up to AFD team-mate Oli Aitchison who won the English under-23 title at this distance three years ago.
Ellen Franklin scored a sprint double. Her winning time in the 100 was shared by Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow’s Harriet Jones, the Berkshire champion, but later the AFD athlete had nearly a second to spare in the 200 metres.
The men’s 100 was won by Luke Dorrell, who had reached the final of the U20 event at the previous weekend’s South of England Championships.
Leanne Davies, the English Schools intermediate silver medallist in 2013, returned from injury to take the women’s javelin.
There were victories, too, for Tom Knight (400), Sofie Kent (800) and in three of the four relays.
