HASLEMERE Ladies are just three points off the lead in Hampshire Division One after this five-goal trouncing of Romsey at Woolmer Hill.

The home side played with great commitment, not least Alice Toynton who made her way to the ground by plane, train and car.

Haslemere’s high press enabled them to dominate possession and soon Alex Hardy scored with a deflection under the keeper.

The second goal, scored by Toynton, was beautifully worked around the D. The third was one for the record books as Toynton broke down the left side of the D before reverse-hitting the ball up and over the goal for Hardy to score with a spectacular volley.

Haslemere kept up the tempo in the second half, forcing Romsey into mistakes.

Kate Hutchins and Abbie Walhen picked up cards, but the home side kept working and continued to press forward.

Sarah Elworthy showed fine stick skills to get past several defenders before beating the keeper.

And Haslemere finally managed to convert one of several short corners, with Mel Knight passing back to Heidi Wells, waiting on the penalty spot, who blasted the ball home for the fifth and final goal.
