ALTON Hockey Club ended the season on a high with their awards dinner at the Swan Hotel, with over 80 members enjoying the evening.

In his speech, club chairman Dave Harvey highlighted the expansion of the junior section, with over 150 youngsters training on Saturday mornings and playing in matches and festivals across the county, while a ladies 2nd XI had competed in the Hampshire League for the first time.

The club welcomed their new president and club founder member, John Smith, back to the Alton hockey family.

Each captain reviewed the season and presented awards for Most Improved Player, Players’ Player and Captain’s Player.

The club awards, voted for by the committee, were as follows:

Golden Stick – James Goulding-Stewart (21 goals); John Young Goalkeeper of the Season – Niall Fife (8 clean sheets); Dennis Martin Young Player – Jonny Dane; Team of the Season – Men’s 2nd XI; Fred Patel Contribution to the Club – Matt Steven; Robin Glanfield Spirit of Hockey Award – Lawrence Jones; Personality Award – Vicky Small.
