THE opening event of the Hampshire Road Race League took place at Overton on a new course along mainly country lanes.

First to finish for Alton Runners was Richard Taylor in a time of 32mins 01sec, giving him a creditable 64th place.

The first Alton lady home, Julie Humphries, finished an excellent 23rd, and second in her age group, with a time of 33-29.

The ladies A came second in the A League Division Two, while the men’s A finished eighth in the A?League Division Two. In the B League, the ladies came second in Division Two and the men eighth in Division Two.
