ALTON Hockey Club will be running Back to Hockey sessions in June and July as part of the England Hockey campaign.

The programme will offer ladies and men the opportunity to try hockey for the first time, or to get back into the sport after a period away from the pitch.

Alton ran the programme for the first time last year and it proved such a success that the club was able to enter a second ladies team into the Hampshire League.

Sessions will start on Monday, June 6 and will run for six weeks, every Monday from 7-8pm at Lord Wandsworth College.

Each session will be £3 on a pay-as-you-go basis, or £15 for all six. There is no age limit or fitness requirements and the club can provide hockey equipment. All that is needed is enthusiasm and eagerness to give it a go.

Alex Danson, England and Reading forward and Youth Sport Trust mentor, began her hockey career at Alton HC. She said: “Hockey is such a brilliant game for not only improving overall fitness and agility, but is also a great way for people of all abilities to come together and enjoy keeping active with like-minded people. Playing is a great way to tone up – the low body position combines both core and leg work-outs, improving strength and stability.”
