ANOTHER home defeat – Aldershot's seventh in 10 league matches at the EBB Stadium this season – sent Dean Holdsworth's team back into the League Two relegation zone.

But despite losing by two clear goals on Saturday, the Shots made Micky Adams' high-flying Port Vale side work hard for the victory.

Rather than be disheartened by the loss and gloomy weather, Holdsworth was buoyed by his team's gritty display and the performance of on-loan striker Daniel Lopez.

The powerful Spaniard, borrowed from Stevenage, headed his third goal in as many games for Aldershot to cancel out Ben Williamson's early opener for the Valiants, and he menaced throughout.

The visitors' class eventually told with a Ryan Burge goal early in the second half and a controversial Jennison Myrie-Williams penalty, but this was far from being a humiliation for the hosts.
