CHAWTON Park’s run in the National Mixed Top Club competition came to an end when they lost 14-2 to Moonfleet at Weymouth.

The match was not as one-sided as the score suggests. John Blair (2-wood singles) recorded Chawton’s only win, but the rink skipped by Adam White were always in contention and the pairs, skipped by Brenda Plumpton, were in close attendance until around halfway when the Moonfleet pair, led by England international Martin Pucket, pulled away. Mark Fyfield’s trio were under constant pressure, but fought gallantly throughout.

Margaret Holden and Adam White reached the County Mixed Pairs quarter-finals. They overcame a strong pairing and a tricky rink at Victory IBC to win 22-16.

In the County Ladies Singles, Margaret Holden avenged an earlier defeat to Ann Pearce (Atherley), winning 21-14.

Continuing her busy week, Margaret Holden joined up with Margaret Leppard and Sue Murray to defeat a Victory trio skipped by Stella Parish. Chawton edged through 16-14.

Brenda Plumpton, Beryl Collier and Alice Atwell came up against an in-form Riverside (Winchester) trio, skipped by Pam Gilmour, and lost 8-17.

Adam White’s rink of Mark Fyfield, Barry Smith and Dick Holden won a tight match against Palmerston (Fareham) 19-13 and are now in the County quarter-finals.
