CHAWTON Park’s top bowler, Adam White, has reached the National Singles Finals (last 32 in the country), to be played at Melton Mowbray, starting on April 15.

He won his way through by beating James Garner (Dolphin IBC) at the neutral venue of Atherley IBC in Southampton. White opened up an early 12-5 lead, but Garner responded, gaining four shots over the next two ends. White extended his lead to 15-10 and again Garner fought back, reducing the deficit to just one shot at 16-15.

However, White pulled away again and clinched victory by five shots, 21-16.

In Hampshire county competitions, Chawton men’s trio of John Driver, John Blair and Dave Sims travelled to Basingstoke to play a strong Loddon Vale triple, led by Duncan Rogers. The Sims triple recorded a fine victory by 16 shots to 10.

Chawton ladies Sue Murray, Beryl Collier, Margaret Holden and Margaret Leppard secured a comfortable win against a Palmerston (Fareham) four skipped by Marilyn Williams. After quickly adjusting to the faster-paced green, Chawton ran out 25-13 victors.

In the Bramley Bowl Hampshire League, Chawton men were in the unique position of requiring two points to both secure runners-up spot and avoid relegation. The result of the match against Palmerston appeared to hinge on which team made best use of home advantage. From the start, Palmerston were ahead on their own green and built a 20-shot advantage at ten ends. Chawton’s home rinks also won convincingly, so gaining the required two points, but not the overall result, with Palmerston winning 94-75.

In a close home friendly fixture, Chawton Park beat Farnborough Civil Service 101-92.
