IT was two out of three for Chawton Park men at the Hampshire Indoor Bowls finals at Loddon Vale IBC, Basingstoke.

The morning session featured Chawton pair Mark Fyfield and Adam White up against Geraint Jones and Gary Lovett of Loddon Vale. Once again, Lovett proved to be a thorn in Chawton’s side.

Approaching midway, Chawton held a four-shot lead, but an untimely dropped five put them behind and Loddon gradually opened up a six or seven-shot lead that proved decisive.

In the O60s two-wood triples, Robert Hutchinson, Dick Holden and Mervyn Atkinson, the latter substituting for regular member Charlie Spear, who was unwell, adjusted better to the Loddon green and always had the edge on Palmerston, building up a ten-shot lead.

Palmerston’s Bruce Kirkham, Bill Jackson and Steve Rice never gave up and claimed a four to close to six shots, but this proved to be their last shot of defiance and Chawton finished worthy winners.

Adam White put the morning’s disappointment behind him and started strongly in the singles final against Charlie Bailey of Victory IBC.

Bailey, the defending champion, struggled to adapt to the slow-paced green and White’s accuracy earned him an unassailable lead, finally winning by eight shots.
