CHAWTON Park Indoor Bowling Club duo Beryl Collier and Margaret Leppard have won through to the finals of the O60s Ladies National Pairs.

The last 16 pairs will contest the finals at Nottingham IBC on Wednesday, March 30.

Playing at the neutral venue of Dolphin IBC in Poole, Collier and Leppard overcame a strong Moonfleet IBC (Weymouth) combination skipped by Kathy Desmond by 22 shots to 14.

In the Men’s National Singles, Adam White travelled to Banister Park in Southampton to play Rob Bines. The Chawton man won a somewhat scrappy match 21-16 to reach the area final.

White was also in action in the Hampshire County Singles where he played host to Stuart Rowney of Atherley (Southampton). The early ends suggested it would be a close encounter, but White gradually pulled away and finished a comfortable 21-10 winner.

The two-wood triple of Robert Hutchinson, Dick Holden and Charlie Spear progressed to the O60s County semi-finals with a convincing 22-11 win against a Victory IBC (Portsmouth) triple skipped by Adrian Ash.

Margaret Leppard and Beryl Collier were back in action, this time joined by Sue Murray and Margaret Holden, to play a County Fours match against Victory, resulting in another win for Chawton.

But it was not all success for Chawton Park. There was a one-shot defeat for Margaret Holden and Brenda Plumpton in the County Pairs and Sue Murray and John Kellow lost in the County Mixed Pairs. Ten-year-old Reece Graham, Chawton’s youngest competitive bowler, gave a good account of himself before losing to Austin Coleman, aged 15, at Banister Park IBC.

Chawton met Banister Park in the Riversmeet Ladies County League. It was close throughout and the sides could not be separated, each winning two rinks to finish dead-level at 75-75.

The weekend friendly against Banister Park was another keenly fought, good-spirited encounter. Banister Park shaded it by 107 shots to 101.
