Frensham Bowls Club celebrated their 90th anniversary with an afternoon of bowls games.
The games, which were open to current members, newcomers and non-bowlers, were followed by a buffet supper at the Frensham Royal British Legion Club.
Frensham Bowls Club president and chairman Dennis Ling welcomed all members and guests at the bowls green in Hollowdene Recreation Ground before handing over to Chris Bonner, who had devised the games for the afternoon.
Bonner paid tribute to all the members and officers of the club over the past 90 years, and a minute’s silence was held in their memory.
The first meeting to form the club had been held on May 2, 1935, with the first chairman being Major General Sir Alfred Blenkinsop – who served for a year before passing away.
The afternoon’s bowls games were played in teams of four – The Founders, The Spitfires, The Boomers, The Hippies, The Punks, Concordes, New Romantics and The Millennials – reflecting the past 90 years.
The bowls games were target jacks, box bowling, within a yard, and rinks.
Each player kept their own individual scores throughout and at the end the afternoon the winner of the 90th anniversary cup was Ray Fulford.
Bonner presented the cup to Fulford before the proceedings transferred to the Frensham Royal Legion Club at Shortfield.
The hall for the evening event had been decorated and set up by bowls committee members Pat and Roger Pearce, Ann and Jon Pitman, Rosemary Wharton and Ray Bridger, with help from members Vearl and Steve Neatherway.
A celebration cake was made by West Street Bakes, which was cut by Frensham Royal British Legion chairman Adam Page after the main buffet.
The evening carried on until late with dancing to music provided by Luke Ruffle on the Legion’s ‘in-house’ disco.
