HEAVY rain brought a premature end to Frensham RBL Bowling Club’s Finals Day. Play ended at 5pm, with the last two games having just got underway.

Earlier, the Joyneson Pairs between Sheila Haytree/Roger Hunter and Robin Dibdin/Gordon Haytree ended 19-19 after 21 closely-fought ends. Dibdin and Haytree won the extra end by one shot.

Meanwhile, Bert Pharo had been in action twice, first defeating Ray Fulford 15-5 to secure the Lintott Cup and then beating Mike Smith 20-3 after 12 ends in the Glaysher Cup.

Roger Hunter met Chris Bonner in the Rose Bowl Handicap. Bonner took an early lead and stayed ahead to win 21-13.

Novice bowlers Bea Sigournay and David Leggett played out a close-fought game in the Lloyd Cup, with Leggett coming out on top 22-15.

Sheila Haytree and Mike Smith contested the Ron and Phyllis Moffatt Cup (2 wood) final and club president Sheila won 21-9.

The Badger Cup, Ladies Championship and Abbott Cup matches will be replayed this weekend.

The Chris Ling Shield is competed for annually on August Bank Holiday in memory of Chris Ling who was both a Royal British Legion Club and Bowls Club member. It also raises money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and this year’s proceeds amounted to £280.

This was the 11th meeting of the sides and after an enjoyable afternoon the Legion Club had won one rink and drawn on another, but gone down heavily on the other two rinks. The tea was provided by the Ling family.

Later, during a barbecue at the Legion Club, Dennis Ling presented the shield to Bowls Club captain Chris Bonner.
