APART from toasting the national triumph of Lesley Johnson and Margaret Holden, the new England Senior Pairs Champions (reported last week), Alton Social bowlers were enjoying other successes.

Doreen Atkins and Marjorie Rowledge battled through to the semi-finals of the Hampshire Golden Girls competition, winning an extra end against Pat Hilton and Sheila Stone of Hook BC.

Brian Scowcroft, Gary Johnson and Derek Ham secured their place in the area final of the County Two-Wood Triples at the expense of Terry Hart’s Cove triple.

Social men’s fours team resume their Basingstoke League schedule after a two-week break and remain one point clear of Oakley after a vital top-of-the-table clash.

Social started strongly with Adam White’s rink of Dick Holden, Ken Ward and Gordon Summerhill forging ahead to win 30-9. This would ensure an overall shots win, with the other two rinks being much closer.

Mark Fyfield’s rink hung on for a one-shot win and Dave Atwell’s men lost by four. Alton Social completed a deserved 70-52 win over Oakley.
