FARNHAM Road Club’s second open time trial of 2016 took place over 25 miles. Almost 100 riders took part in a successful event, well organised by David Clifford.

The riders faced a rising headwind out to the first turn and gusty conditions on the more exposed sections of the course.

The winner was James Boyman of Farnham, now riding for Neon Velo, who recorded a very fast time of 50mins 56secs, well ahead of runner-up Peter Tadros (In Gear Quickvit Trainsharp RT) in 51-52 and third-placed James Rix (Crawley Wheelers) in 51-57.

Gawie Nienaber was Farnham RC’s fastest rider in 55-47, with Ian White recording 58-06 and Huw Lloyd 1-06-40.

The tandem pairing of Robert Allen and Paul Charman recorded their fastest time of the season, 1-01-30.

Timekeepers were Deana Rice and Jim Brown, backed up by many members and friends who acted as course marshals and looked after administration and refreshments.

Farnham promoted their weekly 10-mile time trial on June 14 and the quickest rider was Lee Chaplin of RT316 in 21 mins 17secs, followed by James Long (Farnham Triathlon Club) in 22-51 and David Clifford (Farnham RC) in 24-03.

Farnham’s other finishers were Ian Howard (25-09), Roger Chapman (25-19), Steve Holloway (25-20) and Jim Parker (26-03).

Farnham held their 25-mile championship event on June 7. Once again, the fastest rider was Lee Chaplin of RT316 in 58 mins 22secs. Peter Franks of Charlotteville CC came second in 1-00-16 and home club member Stuart Morgan was third in 1-00-34.

Morgan therefore claimed the Farnham RC championship, with second place going to Greg Harding (1-02-57) and third to Jim Parker (1-08-14). Harding also won the Kettering Stone handicap award, run in conjunction with this event.

Timekeepers at both events were Jim Brown and Ian Thomas. Michael Rice looked after signing-on and Silvio Cortis acted as ‘pusher-off’.
