Aldershot & Farnham hockey club’s men’s 1st XI suffered their third straight defeat when they lost 2-0 away to Bournemouth’s 2nd XI at a windy Chapel Gate in South Central Division 1 South.

A&F competed well in the first half and despite Bournemouth having the territorial advantage it was A&F that had the best opening, with Chris Edwards’ strike from centre top of the D saved well by the Bournemouth keeper.

Bournemouth rotated their players and asserted themselves in the second half. Their first goal occurred on the break after A&F were penalised for an infringement high up the pitch.

With ten minutes to go Bournemouth bagged their second with an outrageous deflection that goalkeeper Will Hall, who had a fine game, could do nothing about. Phil Rushmere in midfield and youngster Nathan Stanley at right-back stood out for A&F.

The men’s 2nd XI lost 7-4 at home to New Forest. Attacking intent was rewarded with three well-worked team goals, but defensive errors, loose marking and ill discipline saw New Forest come back into it and then kill the game off with three goals in seven second half minutes.

The 3rd XI lost heavily at Salisbury while the 4th XI lost 4-1 at home to Basingstoke’s 6th XI in a game that was tight until the closing stages. Charlie Dews impressed with some neat skills.

The women’s 2nd XI won 2-0 at Bournemouth. Cassie Smyth was strong in defence and goalkeeper Kaitlin McCabe handled anything struck at her with aplomb. Jodie Hogson gave A&F a 1-0 lead at half-time following good work by Bridget Tahourdin, who also set up Bonnie Hatcher to score the second.

The women’s 3rd XI lost 4-0 to Winchester’s 4th XI. A&F’s women’s 4th XI drew 1-1 with Petersfield’s 2nd XI, Michaela Mulvey equalising with an emphatic short corner strike.
