Bracknell Town 0, Alton Town 3

THREE second-half goals earned Alton Town a cup upset and a place in the first round proper of the FA Vase on Tuesday night.

After Hellenic League Division One East side Bracknell had squandered several opportunities in a goalless first half of this preliminary round replay, Danny Turner scored twice and Richie Hunter added a third to put the Brewers through on a soggy night at Larges Lane.

The win, which Alton deserved on the night, followed a 1-1 draw between the sides at the Bass Ground last Saturday, and the Brewers now go on to face Sussex County League Division One side Haywards Heath away on October 31.

Joining Alton Town in the first round proper are Farnham Town, who needed a late extra-time equaliser against Malmesbury Victoria to keep their hopes alive before going on to win 4-2 on penalties.

Wiltshire Premier League side Malmesbury were just three minutes from victory when Ross Cheek popped up to take the tie into extra time, cancelling out what looked like a winning goal from Malmesbury with 10 minutes of the extra period remaining.

In-form Farnham striker Mark Corbett, fresh from a hat-trick the previous Tuesday in a Combination Cup defeat, had given Farnham the lead with a penalty on the stroke of half-time, but Malmesbury levelled the tie before full time.

In the first round proper, Farnham Town travel to face Southern Combination League Premier Division side Eastbourne Town on October 31.

Striker Sam Argent scored a hat-trick as Combined Counties League Premier Division Hartley Wintney thrashed Hellenic League side Milton United 4-1.

The home side took full advantage of long delays on the M4 which meant the visitors were late arriving and played much of the game with the only 10 men they had available.

Ian Jones completed the scoring as Hartley Wintney earned a first round tie Wokingham &?Emmbrook, who play in Division One of the Sussex County League.

Badshot Lea bowed out of the competition at the preliminary round stage after an eventful 4-2 defeat at Hellenic League Division One West side Fairford Town.

The Combined Counties League visitors conceded three penalties, the first two being dispatched by Petrie and the third saved by Lea goalkeeper Josh Peckham as they fell 3-0 down.

Lukas Burt got a goal back for Lea on the hour before Darren Blake ensured a nervous finale for the home side with a second goal 14 minutes from time, but Fairford added a fourth in the closing stages to seal their place in the next round.

Goals from former Petersfield Town pair Dan Woodward (2) and Robbie Tambling earned Horndean a 3-1 win in preliminary round replay at Longwell Green on Tuesday night after the sides drew 1-1 in East Hampshire on Saturday.

Horndean’s reward is a first round tie against Western League side Barnstaple.
