Superb batting from Matt Bradley and Alex Andrews swept Clanfield to a ten-wicket home win against Steep’s 2nd XI despite being set a target of 201 for victory.
Steep won the toss and elected to bat, with Chris Alcock (58) and Sean Noble (26) putting on 103 before the first wicket fell after drinks.
Skipper Sean Swift bowled Noble to start an avalanche of wickets, including two for Ollie Sedgwick. The best bowler was Matt Bradley, who recovered from a blow to the face while fielding to take four for 29 in seven overs, but Steep still finished on a sound 200 for eight.
However Steep’s bowlers struggled to control Clanfield openers Bradley (105 not out) and Mike Collins. Collins retired on 20 in the 14th over, but Alex Andrews (65 not out) joined Bradley to reach the target in the 31st over and put Clanfield second in the table.
Clanfield’s 2nd XI travelled to Locks Heath to take on their 4th XI. Locks Heath elected to field and quickly removed Kevin Goodship, but Alex Graham joined Andy Foster and Clanfield had 111 by the 21st over.
Graham made 91 in a partnership of 166 to leave Clanfield on 205 with just over ten overs remaining. A rapid 27 from Dave Hickey supported Foster’s Clanfield best 112 not out as the 2nd XI set their new record total of 301 for four.
Locks Heath lost three early wickets to Warren Lucas (two for 30) and Lilly Page (one for 17). Ray (61), McDonald (14) and Avis (30) provided stability until Avis was bowled by Adam Smith, who took four for 16 in eight overs. Rob Page (two for 37) grabbed the final wicket as Locks Heath were all out for 177 in the 37th over to give Clanfield a 124-run victory and seventh place in the table.
