SOMETHING had to give when two teams boasting 100 per cent records met in the Aldershot Table Tennis League Division Four.
Far from being close, Crawley Ridge C won easily, beating Tennis H 8-2, thanks to maximums from Mark Stephenson and Yuriy Schulzhenko.
Cody E remain unbeaten after a 9-1 victory over two-man Tennis J. Dave Hewitt and John Asprey both won their two singles.
Frimley F overcame their E team 7-3. Ted Cornell, Gary Smith and Steve Lawlor all won two apiece, but none could get the better of Ramesh Vasudevamurthy.
Fleet C beat Ash F 6-4, with Alan Yeung unbeaten for the winners. Roger Fletcher and Graham Thomas both won twice for Ash.
Tennis A edged nearer the top of the Division?One table with a 9-1 mauling of Frimley A. Eliot Tilley and Rod Kay both returned maximums and Paul Myers supported with a double.
Tennis C secured their first points of the season while losing 7-3 to Fleet A. Fallon Thompson, Lawrence Dack and David Joyce all won two for Fleet and Shaun Newbold replied with a pair for Tennis.
Paul Shakespeare and Michael Kwan were undefeated as Tennis B saw off Ash B 8-2.
Cody A moved to the top of Division Two with a 7-3 victory over Bentley B. Keith Russell led the way with a hat-trick and Peter Anthony and Phil Russell took two each, both losing to Bentley’s Robin Street.
Cody B beat Ash C 6-4, but the star of the night was Frank Winnard who claimed a maximum for the losers. Cody’s Dave Stenning, Duncan Sibbick and Paul Mission all won twice.
Braybrooke A squeezed out Tennis E 6-4 and again it was a member of the losing team, Peter Bone, who finished unbeaten. Mark Armstrong and Tony Gabriel won two apiece for Braybrooke.
In a week of tight results, Tennis D lost 6-4 to Old Woking. Steve Cheek was unbeaten for Old Woking and Frank Roberts won twice, as did Stuart Middlemiss for Tennis.
In Division Three, there was a keenly contested match between the Ash E and D teams. The Es came out on top, 6-4, thanks to a full house for Terry French. Amy Parkes won twice in a match in which every player won at least once.
Crawley Ridge B still head the table after an 8-2 win over Tennis F. Phil Garrett secured a maximum and there were doubles for Steve Bridle and David Marchant.
Crawley Ridge A and Frimley D shared the points. Russell Gibbs was unbeaten for Crawley and team-mate Corin Moore bagged a brace, as did Frimley’s Ted Cornell.
Tennis G maintained their perfect record with a 6-4 victory over Cody D. Peter Bone scored a treble for Tennis and Mehrdad Abutalebi won twice. John Sheehy took two for Cody.
