ALTON moved out of the bottom two and above Lymington with this victory over the New Forest club on Saturday.
The sides had tied earlier in the season in the Southern Premier League, but the Brewers came out on top this time, chasing chasing down Lymington’s 221 for the loss of just four wickets.
Scott Myers opted to field on another hot day at Jubilee and Ben Mortimer and Toby Salmon immediately made inroads with the new ball.
Salmon clean-bowled Dominic Hand and Mortimer removed both Ben Rogers and James Grady as Lymington were speedily reduced to 39-3.
When the free-scoring Ryan Scott fell to Dan Scott for 26, the visitors were 69-5, but then Matt Metcalfe and Josh Proctor added 50 in a good stand.
The visitors were wobbling again at 129-7 and having lost their last five wickets for seven runs the week before, the innings looked set to finish early.
However, two youngsters stood firm for Lymington, Josh Royan and Dan Cox adding 61 before Scott separated the pair.
Royan, a Hampshire U15 player, completed his maiden SPL half-century and Lymington were edging towards a potentially challenging total when Michael Salmon snapped up the last two wickets, leaving them 221 all out in the 60th over.
Somewhat frustrated at having let their opponents off the hook, Alton were also aware that this was the second lowest total on what has consistently been a good batting surface.
They lost Michael Heffernan early, but Abhay Gonella and Alex Hammond moved Alton into a good position with a partnership of 70.
Hammond was stumped for 39, but Gonella and Myers consolidated and the teenage opener reached another disciplined fifty before being trapped in front by Dan Cox.
At 133-3, the Brewers still had work to do. Myers and Hugo Hammond looked to be aggressive and it paid off as they saw up the 200.
Hammond, trying one shot too many, skied a catch, but the partnership of 69 left Alton needing just 20. Myers, riding his luck at times, was back in the runs with 79 not out (16 fours) and he and Mark Heffernan saw Alton home in the 49th over.
